If you've ever felt self-doubt (a.k.a. you're a human being in the 21st century), I bet you've heard that advice before.
Feigning fake confidence - with the hope that it will one day ✨magically transpire ✨into genuine confidence - can work for a little while in certain circumstances.
But in general, it's terrible advice for someone with imposter syndrome, unless you're actively doing the deeper inner work to embody this new version of yourself.
"Fake it until you make it" can add to the overwhelm and stress because it feels even more inauthentic.
Without integration or embodiment, faking becomes a permanent part of your facade and can lead to burn out, anxiety and creeping further away from your authentic self.
Imposter syndrome can look like:

Steph Ellen is a multi-passionate recovered perfectionist who empowers soulful high-achievers to break patterns of self-sabotage and create their own authentic version of success.
Steph is a certified spiritual life coach, Aaruka® Healer, 350hr yoga teacher, breathwork facilitator, equine veterinarian and life-long learner with a passion for educating.
Drawing on both modern neuroscience and ancient wisdom, Steph's coaching style is a holistic blend of potent mindset work, subconscious reprogramming, energetics and working with the nervous system.
When she's not working, you'll find Steph trail running in the Aussie bush, dancing at a music festival (with zero rhythm but mad enthusiasm 🤘) or snuggling her two cats, Freddie and Elton.
